Homemade baked Donuts

A quick post before we get busy for the day Apple picking!

I sure love this time of year when the air is crisp and the leaves all change colors, fall and cover the ground. The smell of apples and pumpkins in the air and big comfy sweaters are in style. Time seems to slow down a little bit this time of year and we get to enjoy life a little better.

I made these apple cinnamon BAKED donuts in celebration of fall and having a party! I was going to buy some, but I didn't really find what I wanted, so...... I found a $8 donut pan at Walmart and got busy. I wanted to share the the recipe I used. I found it online, but added a few touches of my own.  I believe they were a big hit! Here it is!!

Ingredients:
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 ½ tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 2 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 ½ cup fresh apple, peeled and grated
For the Coating:
  • Melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 400
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, pumpkin pie spice.
  3. In another large bowl, stir together melted butter, eggs, sugar, buttermilk and applesauce.  Stir in fresh apple.
  4. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet and mix well.
  5. Spray the donut pan with a non-stick baking spray.
  6. With a measureing spoon, scoop batter into the cavities of the donut pan.  Fill each cavity 2/3 to 3/4 of the way full. To help donuts keep their pretty shape when baking. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes, until the tops of donuts spring back slightly when touched.  Let cool 5 minutes before removing from pan.
  7. For the outside coating, combine sugar, and pumpkin pie spice. Dip each donut quickly into melted butter.  Then dip into cinnamon sugar and toss to coat generously. Let cool and enjoy!!!
